When King Zwelidumile dies, his two sons Nkosana, the ambitious firstborn born to a commoner mother, and Zwelibanzi, the rightful heir raised abroad are plunged into a vicious battle for the throne. Zwelibanzi, torn between duty and desire, returns from Dubai, where he left behind Khalid, the man he loves, to marry Zakhona, a Swati princess in love with a warrior named Sipho. Their union is a hollow spectacle, a marriage of secrets: she mourns a lost love, he hides his forbidden desires. When Nkosana seizes power, his reign is cursed: his children die mysteriously, his body fails him, and the kingdom revolts. Now, Zwelibanzi must return to a broken throne, where love and loyalty are weapons, and the only way to survive is to live a double life. But the past never stays buried.
